History


Franz Kolar GmbH was founded in 1928, but the story began when the founder Franz Kolář designed a machine for the production of wooden carved mouldings.
1926

1926

František Kolář, the later founder of the company, designed his first carving moulding machine himself. He wanted to offer every carpenter an inexpensive semi-finished product was the revolutionary idea behind it.
 
1932

1932

The first KOLAR catalogue is released. The production is located in the 15th district of Vienna in Hollergasse.
 
 
1953

1953

The founder's son Franz Kolar took over the business during the difficult war years and continued the company with his two sons Franz and Jaroslav Kolar.
 
1972

1972

Jaroslav Kolar takes over the company and sets up the first export markets. The first square milling cutters replace table milling machines.
 
 
1978

1978

Production moves to the newly built plant in Brunn am Gebirge, where efficient series production is possible. Lacquered mouldings start to be offered.
 
1991

Firm is handed over to Jaroslava and Leos Linha, further development and expansion of the export markets in Western Europe.

Opening of the new production premises FK Drevene Listy s.r.o. in the Czech Republic.

2003-2013

Development of design panels, introduction of trademark protection, exclusive production location in the Czech Republic.

Dagmar and Christoph Poindl take over the management in the 5th generation. The Austrian location also undergoes a renovation and is reflected in the new, energy-saving façade.

90 years Kolar is celebrated with 180 employees.
