Kolar introduces flexible, sound-absorbing design material
Also acoustically effective
The Austrian supplier specialist Kolar provides another interesting product for indoor use with the patented Dukta design panel. The panel is ductile, transparent and characterized by its sound-absorbing effect.
The Dukta panels are one or two sided carved wooden panels. The special carving technique means the panels are flexibly bendable. They are particularly suitable for wall and ceiling applications, for straight and curved surfaces as well as for freestanding partition elements and for furniture.
Dukta opens up new horizons with its visual and technical characteristics to the user in interior design and interior decoration. The panels also allow use in combination with light through their flexibility and transparency.
The high sound-absorbing effect of this wooden material is of particular interest. Wavy Dukta acoustic wall and ceiling panels reach high sound absorption values across all frequencies.
The internationally patented method works with conventional wooden materials. The backing material is, according to the customer's wishes, either a three-layer panel, a sheet of plywood or MDF. In special applications solid wood can also be used.
Kolar provides the composite material in four different profile variations types as standard.
Developed in Switzerland
The idea of Dukta came in a training course at the Zurich University of the Arts. It all started with the desire of the then student Christian Kuhn, to construct a lounger from multiple curved wooden elements. Together, Kuhn and his professor Serge Lunin tested alternatives to well-known methods such as steam bending or laminating. Certain sectional arrangements give the wood greater flexibility but it also weakens simultaneously and this was shown through countless experiments. Hands-on beginnings became gradual targeted examinations and the process has been patented. In August 2011, Serge Lunin and Christian Kuhn founded the Dukta GmbH with the aim of bringing the products to market which they developed.
